Unit 7 - P2 & M1

Select holidays in European destinations to meet specific motivations and then I will be explaining how the selected holidays meet specific motivations

Customer brief a)
Sarah and Malik are couples in their early thirties, are keen mountaineers and are extremely fit and healthy. They want a two week spring break to indulge their holiday.

Destination one- the French Alps
The Alps is a great place to explore the mountains and go hiking on lower grounds.  It is accessibly as Sarah and Malik can get to the French Alps by aeroplane or euro star and then get transport from the airport/ train station to the location where they will be staying.  The traditional things about the French Alps are the local villagers wearing traditional costumes during religious processions, concerts and festivals. This has been going on since the 15th century. The French Alps destination type is a winter ski resort and the holiday type is a single centre (only going to one place), it is cheap to get to the French Alps as you can go with EasyJet or get cheap train tickets with Eurostar. Certain lodging accommodation will be cheap and you can eat and drink on a budget.

Accommodation:
Hotel L’ours Blanc is a four star hotel located in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, France.

Sarah and Malik’s motivation is to spend two weeks during in the spring indulging of their hobby which is mountaineering.

 The climate:
These temperatures are perfect for going skiing, as it is not hot but still cool enough in the first two weeks of April for the couple to go skiing. The weather during the spring break period (first two weeks of April) the snow is just starting to melt so the couple will be able to experience the French Alps in the snow and without snow.

The cost for the trip will cost around about £2000 for the whole two weeks.

Accessibility: The couple can get to the hotel by the Eurostar which would take 90 minutes, to drive there it would take 13 hours to drive however the downside is that the transfer times from all of the airports (Grenoble airport, Chambery airport, Lyon airport and Geneva airport) take about 2/3 hours depending on the traffic, peak seasons or the weather.

Cultural factors: the signature food and drink is frog legs and Snails. The main religion is catholic.

The attractions at the French Alps is that every April is a massive acoustic festival that has been going on for eight years and more than 17, 000 people attend, one of the stages is on top of one of the mountains and in nearby villages the couple can enjoy 35 free concerts if they want a break from mountaineering.

Economic:
there is a wide range of low cost travel options as Sarah and Malik can fly with budget airlines such as EasyJet or get cheap train tickets with the Eurostar. The impact of the exchange rate can affect the couple either positively or negatively, currently the euro exchange rate is 1.34 which is good as the couple will get an extra 34p for every pound they exchange, this means the couple as they are getting more for their money.

The trip is reasonable as you can get cheap transport to France and can always choose a cheaper hotel if Sarah and Malik want to.

It will appeal to people who enjoy adventure holidays as well as people who enjoy mountaineering. Families may also enjoy as they are different levels of skiing to meet everyone’s needs.

Merit -

Amsterdam is a place which appeals to young adults, maybe families and elderly people who want to look at the historic part of the city and for the flower markets.

Merit
Amsterdam is my selected holiday location to send nick and his friends who have just finished their A-levels. This is because it is only 40 minutes away from London on a plane ride and they may not want to go too far away from home on a first group holiday. There are many things to do and they wanted to see a lot of cultural and Amsterdam offers that whereas Magaluf is mainly about clubbing and the buzzing nightlife.
